Today, we are going to learn about image optimization and I would like to share few steps which could help you to perform better image optimisation for your content.

Given below are few basic steps which you can follow for image optimisation.

Specify the image name

Every media content should have a name. Be it an Image or a Video or any other sort of graphic. Always put a name on your media content instead of saving them by generic names. Having a name on image would work as short description of content. It makes it easier for search engine crawlers to understand the media content. Similarly, it works for visitors as well. So, you should always have a name for your image files and on other media files as well.

ALT tags

Search engine crawlers are robots and they can’t see images. Alt tags are a practice to make them understand the media content because they might not see the image but they (crawlers) can read the alt tag and decide whether the graphic content is related to the article/written information or not. However, If you are into SEO then I believe you know the importance of ALT tags and its relevance. Never ignore alt tags when it comes to image optimization. Crawlers are robots but you can help them in reading your image files by using correct alt tag.

Use Descriptive captions

If you are running a blog or a website which contains images, then putting a caption on image is one of the important features for both your blog viewers and search engine crawlers. It is a good SEO practice to use descriptive captions on images. You need to put a caption on images where it is required, it would give you better engagement and help people to understand your web/blog content easily.

Focus on image size

Image size matters a log in image optimization practice. This task should be on priority while using images. You should always check the image size to improve the loading time of page. Do not use heavy images on your blog/website. If you are creating high quality graphics for your web pages, then consider compressing them before uploading it on your website or blog. You can use online tools to compress images or any software to decrease the image size.

Use of dimensions

Most of the website owners get their images done by professional image editors but when it comes to blog/personal profiles, people do it on their own and often use incorrect dimensions. In this situation, you could use tools such as Canva and choose a template according to your web page content. You could design your template and use it on your web page.
