URL prefix
URL prefix are different set of URLs we use such as www.example.com and example.com while verifying the property in google search console. Being a webmaster you can put the preferred prefix. If you choose the domain level verification then prefix will not be added in property. You can create different property to add property with prefix in search console. However, if you don’t choose the prefix, google will automatically choose the best for you.
Change URL prefix in search console
Changing URL prefix of website is a risky. You should know everything about the URL parameters before making any change in property variant. Commonly URL prefix are decided by google but search console always gives and option to choose the variant of property while setting up search console.
Website owners can make the changes according to their marketing strategy. We can use any variant of URL according to our use. It could be www or non-www.

Visit https://search.google.com/u/0/search-console/
Put the preferred URL prefix in URL prefix section
Choose the verification method
Verify property and that’s all.
After the verification, you chosen prefix will reflect in search console. You can find the complete list site ownership verification by google.
Is there any SEO benefit of www or non-www domain prefix?
There is no SEO benefit of using domain with www or without www. But www domain is preferred as it is works well with technology and some technical assignments are easy to complete with www domain. For example:
- CDNs are easier to set up with www domains
- www domains are user friendly
- Websites using www help restrict cookies from transferring across many sub-domains
Conclusion
