In my earlier post “Types of SEO” I tried to cover all types and categories of SEO. Today’s topic is based on one of the type of SEO. I am going to share some deep information on “what is local SEO”. After that few local SEO tips and tricks which can help you to enhance your local business. You don’t need dedicated SEO company or opt in for any particular SEO Course to do that. You can do it on your own and can even perform better than taking SEO Service providers who promise to deliver better SEO Services but failed to do so. Let’s begin the learning and learn what is local SEO and how it works.

According to its type, Local SEO is a search engine optimization method specially performed while keeping local business in Mind. The aim of doing Local SEO is to attract local audience and gain visibility in local market. For example, if you are running a business which caters limited locations, then you would prefer your audience from your service area. It is useful and beneficial for your business. It also helps in building positive impression between your business and your potential audience. When we perform SEO we apply so many tricks to get ranks in SERP while Local SEO Tricks are completely different. Here we focus on product performance and local audience. The targeted audience is not that broad.

However, It is incredibly effective way to market your local business online. Business owners can promote their services and products to local customers at the exact time they’re looking for them online. Local markets are reaching out to customer by different methods and creating their own kind of customer type.

The very first step of performing Local SEO for your business is to identifying your local audience. Once you have the understanding, you can deliver your product/service to correct audience. But it brings few questions in mind such as:

  • Is there any tool required to do that?
  • Is it Okay to make changes in product or service to perform better in local SEO results?

Here is how to identify local Audience

Identifying local audience is based on your SEO skills and understanding website behaviour. If you have a website then analyse the web traffic including, landing and exit pages and audience behaviour and types of audiences. Dig in between audience overview in Google analytics tool and understand “In market segment” and “affinity Categories”. It will help you to understand in a better way.


Understanding Landing and Exit Pages

While understanding what Local SEO is, it is important to have knowledge about audience behaviour as I explained above. But it is equally important to know your website behaviour as well. The best option to do is analysing landing pages and exit pages. Basically landing pages are those pages where visitors land either organically or by advertisement. You can always know the source of traffic. Let’s take the example from given below screenshot.

As you can see in the above image, I can clearly see the landing pages on my website. These are the pages on which visitors land. If you look closely, then you will realize that most of the visitors are looking for Latest SEO Tips category and pages which comes under this category. It is very easy for me to understand what my website visitors are looking on my website. If I would add a secondary dimension to identify what are the sources of traffic then it will give me clearer picture. To do this just go to secondary dimensions located above the title of columns and select the dimension according to me.

As you can see in above image, dimensions are helpful to understand from where you are getting traffic and what kind of traffic is driving more engagement on your portal.  Now let’s move on to question number two. Is there any tool required to identify local audience.

Tools to identify local audience

When it comes to tools, I always rely on google provided tools. However, as per your convenience you can use many other analytic tools such as:

  • Bing
  • Yandex
  • Adobe Analytics
  • Clicky
  • Piwik
  • Mixpanel
  • Woopra

These tools would make it easy for you to collect the data and create a better SEO Plan for your local business.

Now let’s move on to the final question, “Is it okay to make changes in product or services to boost Local SEO?

So far we have learnt what Local SEO is and how to analyse it by using tools. It is enough to understand that if we are able to understand audience behaviour and can analyse website performance, we can make changes in our SEO Strategies. It is always good to make small changes to attract more local audience. For example, if you are running a store in particular area and you know what your website visitors are looking for. Now you can focus on that particular product or services and try to make your audience happy.

Local SEO is important because it is powerful, easy and can generate better marketing results quickly. Potential of local audience is always much more than wide range audience. It is much easier to generate direct sales by performing well in Local SEO. Mobile platforms are one of the biggest factors in success of Local SEO. Just because of mobile devices, only 20% of Adults Get News from Print Newspapers. It’s because more and more people are turning to the internet for their local news and information about local businesses.

Local SEO helps businesses owners to market their services, products and information to local audience. Google my business listing is one of the finest example here. Local Search Engines collect information from local content, social media profile pages and mentions to provide valuable data to users.

Local SEO contains geographical components. It is based on user location, industry and searched content. For example: Best Search Engine Optimization company in Delhi NCR is local search and Best Search Engine Optimization Company is organic search.
